More about Sales Programmes

At University I never knew what I wanted to do as a career. Something I heard a bit about which seemed different to the usual banking jobs was a career in the FMCG industry. It seemed there was a broad range of jobs available within this sector covering different areas such as Sales, Marketing, HR and Finance all of which required different sets of skills.

I applied to a variety of companies in this area and after a successful assessment centre I was offered a place on the Nestlé Sales Graduate Programme.

Since starting on the programme, I have covered a range of roles in field sales, category management and account management. I currently work as an account manager looking after our Seasonal Confectionery business in ASDA. I am fully responsible for presenting our Seasonal ranges to ASDA, putting a commercial plan together that fits their needs and then agreeing this plan with them to deliver profit and share in line with the targets I have been set by Nestlé.

My favourite part of the role is during the seasons when I am tracking the performance of our lines in ASDA on a daily basis and feeding this back to the business to manage stock levels and any risk to the plan. I am involved in many areas of the business as I am the first contact for supply chain, category and finance when it comes to Seasonal Confectionery in ASDA.

Key skills I have learnt and used in sales have been relationship building, which is key to working with our retailers and negotiation which is critical to ensure both ourselves and our customers are supported with our plans.

Katie graduated from Durham University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology.
