More about industrial Placements

Within Nestlé, I'm part of the IS/IT Support Centre Team in the Local Globe Organisation (LGO) which helps staff with PC related difficulties. This requires me to identify the problem and develop a solution within Nestlé’s limitation whilst delivering a high level of customer service. This frequently leads to contacting international IT teams to help resolve problems and meet customer’s needs.

Whilst at Nestlé I have also been a member of a number of projects. These range in scale from global projects to individual offices. This has resulted in a much greater knowledge base in understanding of business and international IT infrastructures.

During my placement I have developed key skills in a wide variety of areas. I feel the most important of these is communication. Communication is the vital in my day to day role with my customers and with international contacts.

When I was looking for my placement, I wanted to find out more about what type of business I was applying for and if it was right for me. Like most people, I associated Nestlé with chocolate and cereal. When researching the Company I realised the scale and international presence that makes up the world’s largest food company.

The biggest benefit for me has been understanding how a large multinational company like Nestlé operates. They don't treat you as a 'placement student'; you are a full member of the team who does the same work as all other members. Projects are assigned to you with real deadlines and costs. Working with Nestlé is a great introduction into the word of IT.
