We have two routes available for those interested in an IS industrial placement:
- Our Applications Team (5 x vacancies in York)
- Our Local Globe Organisation (LGO) ( 1 x vacancy in York & 1 x vacancy in Croydon)
The Applications Team support specific business areas and could see you providing support in accounting operations to our Payroll team, costing to the Employee Self Service Team and ensuring supply of products to Manufacturing. This is a key role within the business as many of the issues dealt with can be business critical, ensuring that internal customers requirements are understood and met efficiently.
As well as day-to-day problem solving and providing support to our customers, you will be involved in project work, develop a specialist skill area, and provide flexibility to work across all the Applications Group Teams.
If you join our LGO team, youre still in a customer facing role but the support is more to individual systems users rather than customer teams. You could be helping install new software, setting up new access rights or trouble-shooting for customers. The role is slightly more technical at times than the Applications Team route and also can be slightly more repetitive in workload.
As both routes are customer facing, we need more than just IT skills. Were looking for:
- Proven communication skills written and verbal
- Excellent analysis skills
- A positive attitude and enthusiasm
- Determination to provide a quality service
- Excellent team working skills
Well ask you which team you may prefer to join on your application form. Dont worry if youre not sure; well look at what you say about your interests and fit you to the team. Please note that neither of these roles are about programming so, if this is something that really interests you, we probably arent the right route for you.
We regret that our IS Team is small and we dont have a graduate programme for this function. Opportunities for a direct entry position are fairly unlikely due to the size of the team and limited turnover.
