Engineering and Operational Excellence

At Nestlé, we consider Engineering and Operational Excellence to be cornerstones of our business. Join us in either of these areas and you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our manufacturing operations meet the demands of a highly competitive supply chain.

Engineering

Engineering with Nestlé means working with some of the most advanced processing technologies available – and applying your expertise to give us the competitive edge. We take high calibre graduates and develop them for future leadership roles.

If you are studying or have studied for an electrical engineering degree, join us and for your first two years you’ll work at factories across the UK. You’ll apply your skills within teams responsible for a variety of areas: such as asset maintenance and reliability, or the optimisation of infrastructure and services. Or you’ll work in multi-disciplinary project teams commissioning new plants or technologies.

As an Electrical, Automation & Control Engineer you’ll quickly discover how important process control is to our manufacturing operations – from designing the electrical supply network through to automating high speed lines, controlling robots and even developing information systems.

Your placements will bring you face-to-face with a results-focused culture in which creativity, initiative and the dedication to succeed are highly valued. We’ll encourage you to develop your skills and career through different engineering positions within our factories – opening up possibilities for you to become an Engineering Manager or even to branch out into a broader production & technical role.

You must have or currently be studying for an engineering-based degree. We’ll also expect you to have the motivation to drive continuous improvement within our factories, along with strong people and communication skills. If you have an enthusiastic, can-do approach, a professional attitude and are willing to work in different locations – possibly even abroad – then we can give you the work and training you need to become a highly respected chartered engineer.

Operational Excellence

Operational Excellence provides vital support to all Nestlé’s factories in the UK. Join us, and you’ll be involved in projects to eliminate waste, increase reliability and reduce major production issues. This may also include helping factories understand and deliver new initiatives, and even implementing innovative new programmes across the country.

As part of our team, you’ll focus all your energies on improving the production process and solving issues that are having a major impact on production. It’s a role that’s perfectly suited to someone who enjoys a challenge and wants to make a difference in helping to sustain Nestlé world class production.

Day to day, you’ll work with people at all levels of the company – from the Senior Leadership Team and factory management, to the operators that run the production lines and our technical staff. Your projects will be based around eliminating all non value-added activities, reducing changeover times and increasing reliability…all factors that result in an increased production line performance.

Your success won’t just come from good engineering skills: you’ll need great people skills too. We’ll expect you to have the credibility and gravitas to influence, inspire and engage. You’ll need the ability to build new project teams that can measure, analyse and understand the root causes of a problem. This way, you’ll arrive at solutions that factory staff will be eager to take ownership of once you leave. Finally, you’ll need the skill to implement solutions and put control mechanisms in place that keep improvements sustainable.

We’ll give you all the support and guidance you need. In return, you’ll need confidence in yourself and the courage to see your actions through to completion.

This is a high profile opportunity to broaden your skills and try new challenges – so you’ll need to come equipped with the right motivation to progress quickly. It’s important that you’re mobile and flexible enough to travel within the UK and abroad. You could be studying any degree discipline to apply for this role.

To enrol on a Nestlé Graduate Programme you must have achieved (or be on track for) 300 UCAS points, a minimum 2.1 degree or EU equivalent and must be willing to relocate within the UK. You must also have graduated in 2008, 2009 or be graduating in 2010.
